Maytag F01

Main Control Fail

High severityExpert Guide

What Your Machine Is Actually Telling You

F01 means the Central Control Unit (CCU) detected a fault in its EEPROM memory — the chip that stores operating parameters. Maytag uses the same Whirlpool-based control platform, so F01 behavior is identical.

Common causes:
1. Power surge (35%) — corrupted the EEPROM.
2. Board failure (25%) — chip or component died.
3. Loose connector (15%) — vibration loosened wiring.
4. Moisture damage (10%) — water reached the board.
5. Manufacturing defect (10%).
6. Software corruption (5%) — power interrupted during write.

What You're Probably Seeing Right Now

  • F01 immediately on power-up.
  • F01 randomly mid-cycle.
  • F01 after a power outage.
  • All buttons unresponsive.

DIY Fix — From Easiest to Hardest

1

Power Reset (10 minutes — Fixes 40%)

1. Unplug for **10 full minutes.**
2. Capacitors discharge completely.
3. EEPROM may recover on clean boot.
4. Plug back in.

**Install a surge protector** to prevent recurrence.
2

Reseat Board Connectors (10 minutes)

1. Unplug.
2. Remove access panels.
3. Find CCU.
4. Disconnect and reseat ALL connectors.
5. Check for corrosion, burns, moisture.
3

Inspect Board (5 minutes)

1. Look for swollen capacitors.
2. Burn marks.
3. Solder cracks near relays.
4. Water staining.
4

Replace CCU (20 minutes)

1. Order model-specific CCU ($100-280).
2. Photo all connector positions.
3. Swap boards.
4. Reconnect and test.

When to Call a Pro

  • CCU replacement — $200-$500 installed.
  • Board rebuild service — $100-$250.
  • Multiple board failure — may total the machine.
