Samsung nF1
Hot Cold Hose Reversal

What Your Machine Is Actually Telling You
nF1 (or nF on some models) means the washer detected cold water arriving through the hot inlet and/or hot water through the cold inlet. Samsung machines with temperature sensors at each inlet can detect this reversal.
Why this matters: Wash cycles rely on specific water temperatures. A cold wash using hot water wastes energy and can damage delicate fabrics. A hot wash using cold water won't clean properly. Color cycles with hot water can cause dye bleeding.
This is almost always an installation error — the hoses were simply connected to the wrong ports.
Common causes:
1. Hoses swapped at the washer (50%) — hot hose on cold port or vice versa.
2. Hoses swapped at the taps (30%) — connected to wrong taps.
3. Hot water system not on (10%) — no hot water available.
4. Cross-connected plumbing (5%) — house plumbing reversed.
5. Sensor fault (5%) — temperature sensor misreading.

What You're Probably Seeing Right Now
- nF1 appeared after new installation or reconnecting hoses.
- Cold water when you selected hot wash.
- Hot water on a cold/delicates cycle.
- Machine won't start — nF1 prevents cycle.
DIY Fix — From Easiest to Hardest
1
Swap the Hoses (5 minutes — Fixes 80%)
1. Turn off BOTH water taps.
2. Pull machine away from wall.
3. Note the labels on the back of the washer: **HOT** (left) and **COLD** (right) — or as labeled.
4. Disconnect both hoses from the washer.
5. Swap them — connect hot line to HOT port, cold to COLD port.
6. Tighten hand-tight + 1/4 turn.
7. Turn on taps and check for leaks.
8. Restart cycle.
**Samsung standard:** Hot = LEFT, Cold = RIGHT (viewed from back).

2
Check Tap Connections (3 minutes)
At the wall taps:
1. Red handle/mark = hot.
2. Blue handle/mark = cold.
3. Verify each hose is connected to the correct tap.
4. If reversed: swap them here.

2. Blue handle/mark = cold.

4. If reversed: swap them here.
3
Verify Hot Water Is Available (2 minutes)
1. Disconnect the hot hose from the washer.
2. Point into a bucket.
3. Turn on the hot tap briefly.
4. Feel the water — is it actually hot?
5. **If cold:** your hot water heater may be off or failing.

If Plumbing Is Cross-Connected (Rare)
If swapping hoses doesn't fix it:
1. Run hot tap at a nearby sink — confirm hot water.
2. Run cold tap — confirm cold water.
3. If reversed in your plumbing: call a plumber.
4. Alternatively: connect hoses in reverse (swap at washer to compensate).

When to Call a Pro
- •Cross-connected plumbing — plumber: $100-$300.
- •Temperature sensor fault — $80-$180 installed.
- •Hot water system failure — water heater repair: varies.
