Maytag UL

Unbalanced Load

Low severityExpert Guide

What Your Machine Is Actually Telling You

UL (also uL on some models) means the load is unevenly distributed and the machine can't safely spin at high RPM.

uL vs UL: Some Maytag models show lowercase uL while attempting rebalancing, then uppercase UL when it gives up.

Common causes:
1. One heavy item (35%).
2. Too few items (20%).
3. Tangled items (15%).
4. Machine not level (10%).
5. Shock absorbers worn (10%).
6. Suspension (5%).
7. Shipping bolts (5%).

What You're Probably Seeing Right Now

  • Machine stopped during spin.
  • Loud banging or thumping.
  • Single large item in drum.
  • UL on every load — mechanical issue.
