Whirlpool F33

Pump Drive System Error

Medium severityExpert Guide

What Your Machine Is Actually Telling You

F33 means the CCU detected a fault in the pump drive circuit — the relay or TRIAC on the board that controls the drain pump motor. This is different from a mechanical pump failure.

Common causes:
1. CCU relay burned (35%) — pump relay welded or open.
2. Drain pump short (20%) — pump drawing excess current.
3. Wiring issue (15%) — harness between board and pump.
4. Pump motor seized (10%) — causing relay to fail.
5. Power surge (10%) — damaged relay circuit.
6. Board solder crack (10%) — joint failure.

What You're Probably Seeing Right Now

  • Machine won't drain — F33 code.
  • Pump is completely silent. Or runs constantly.
  • F33 appeared suddenly.
  • Burning smell from control area.

DIY Fix — From Easiest to Hardest

3. Try Drain Only.
2

Test Drain Pump (5 minutes)

1. Unplug.
2. Disconnect pump.
3. Measure: 5-30Ω = good. OL = dead. Very low = shorted.
4. If shorted: it may have blown the relay.
3

Inspect CCU Board (5 minutes)

1. Access CCU.
2. Look at the pump relay area.
3. Check for:
- Burned relay.
- Discolored traces.
- Solder cracks.
4. Advanced: some boards can have relay resoldered.
4

Replace CCU (20 minutes)

1. If relay area is damaged: replace CCU ($100-280).
2. Or send board for professional repair ($80-150).
3. Also replace pump if it was shorted.
